One week before their first new album in six years hits stores (June 2), Rancid is streaming all 20 tracks from Let the Dominoes Fall on their MySpace page. Initial thoughts? Well, nine songs in, and I can tell you: This is not the same Rancid you grew up with. I’m merely only giving you my first reaction, so I may very well change my mind with more listens, but the seventh Rancid record — diverse as it may be — is no …And Out Come the Wolves or Life Won’t Wait. What it seems to me is a great car record perhaps more tailored for cruising than breaking the sound barrier. Anyways, a fairer review will be coming soon. In the meantime, enjoy!

We’ve waited six long years since Indestructible, and now the street-punk stalwarts have returned. Rancid will be releasing their seventh album, Let the Dominoes Fall, June 2.
In the meantime, they premiered the video for the track “Last One to Die” earlier today. Initial thoughts… The song itself–it’s very, very poppy. It almost doesn’t seem like I’m listening to Rancid at first. By the third time through, it sounds like the band I love blasting in my car each summer. Some of their fans have described it as “laid back,” and I think that’s pretty fair. It’s not unabashedly sugary or anything, but I’m hoping there’s a little more punch to at least some of the tracks on the album.
Also, the band is about to go on a massive tour. Check that out.
(Note: Every once in a while, you may see something on the site categorized as “Non-RN.” This simply means non-retro noir. It doesn’t exactly fit under the umbrella, so to speak. Some publications may slip in some acts or bands they want to cover, but it doesn’t really fit, therefore expanding their umbrella, if you will. But then you think they’ll cover something related, and they blatantly ignore it. I’d like to just say that I will be covering things that aren’t always RN, but they will labeled as such. Kind of like a leper.)
